Preheat oven to 400 °F.
Using an electric mixer add butter, sugar, and vanilla to mixing bowl. Mix on the lowest setting for 20 seconds. Add eggs one at a time mixing 20-30 seconds between each egg. Once ingredients are incorporated turn mixer to high and cream ingredients for 3 minutes.
Turn mixer to low and slowly add the reserve liquid. Continue mixing for 30-40 seconds on low. Let this batter mixture sit while you ready the dry ingredients.
In a separate bowl add only these ingredients: flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. With a fork or spoon mix up these ingredients.
All mixing from this point will be by hand.
Add a cup of flour mixture to creamed butter mixture. Mix flour into butter mixture. Keep adding flour mixture a cup at a time until all the flour is incorporated into the butter mixture.
Add the oatmeal and mix by hand until the oatmeal is all coated with the cookie dough.

Fold in raisins.
Drop by rounded teaspoon onto an ungreased baking sheet spacing them about two inches apart.
